Elden Ring patch 1.13 is now live on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. This is quite a huge patch compared to the previous one and brings huge changes mainly focusing on Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. We’ll briefly discuss all the changes included in the Elden Ring patch 1.13 and how they’ll affect your gameplay.

Highlights of Changes in Elden Ring Patch 1.13

The patch has a major focus on tuning the in-game items and weapons but also focuses on quality-of-life changes for the players.

Starting with the PvP balancing changes, they’ve increased the poise damage for several weapons including Light Great Swords, Katanas, Whips, Claws, and Backhand Blades. However, they’ve decreased the backstep vulnerability window when Fine Crucible Feather or All Crucibles Talisman are equipped.

Skills like Savage Lion’s Claw, Blind Spot, Raging Beast, and Palm Blast have also seen a decreased invulnerability window and poise amount generation. Spells and Incantation, Miriam’s Vanishing, and Knight’s Lightning Spear, now have decreased invulnerability windows against other players’ attack and increase in attack power respectively.

This was all in regard to PvP balance changes. The rest of the patch notes for update 1.13 focuses on general game balance adjustments. This is a huge list that includes changes to Armaments, Skills, Spells, Incantations, and a huge number of Ashes in Elden Ring.

Elden Ring Patch 1.13 also had a decent amount of focus on fixing bugs in the game. Most prominently, changing the placement of summon signs and making summing NPCs easier with just the push of the action button once.

There have been reports of weapons, Dark Moon Greatsword to name one, not inflicting their intended damage, which was also fixed in this update.

There are many bows for you to try out in Elden Ring. While most bows in the game are normal, some of them have great power. The Erdtree Bow is one of the bows that stands out amongst the others thanks to its holy damage. Every arrow that you fire from this bow deals holy damage as well as physical damage. This weapon comes equipped with the Mighty Shot weapon art that allows you to fire armor-piercing arrows. Overall, this bow is worthwhile if you are going for that faith build. Here is how you can get the Erdtree Bow in Elden Ring.

Acquire The Erdtree Bow

To obtain this weapon, you will first need to make your way to the Capital City. To gain access to this area, you will need to collect the Great Runes of at least two bosses. Before reaching the Capital City, you can get the Great Runes of Godrick, Rennala, Rykard, and Radahn. Once you have at least two Great Runes, make your way to the wall of the Capital City and defeat the Draconic Tree Sentinel to gain access.

Now that you have entered the city, your goal is to reach the Erdtree Sanctuary Site of Grace. You can do this by progressing through the city to the giant dragon statue. Make your way to the statue’s wing and climb it. This will lead you to the West Capital Rampart Site of Grace. From there, go up the tree roots to reach the Erdtree Sanctuary.

Before you have access to the Site of Grace, you will need to defeat Godfrey. Once you defeat him, go outside to the balcony and use the tree root to access the second floor. After getting on the wooden balcony inside, go outside and turn left. Jump onto the rooftop and go through the open window. From there, you will find a chest. Open the chest to obtain the bow.

The Crystalians have ways of making you hurt. Each of their spells is crystal-based and fires off crystals in some way or another. The Crystal Torrent spell allows you to create a crystal mass that fires off shards in rapid succession at your foes. You can hold this spell down to make it continue for a longer amount of time. Even a stray blow from this spell can be rather devastating. Here is how you can get the Crystal Torrent sorcery in Elden Ring.

Acquiring Crystal Torrent Sorcery in Elden Ring

To obtain this sorcery, you will need to make your way to the Caelid region. This is the region to the east of Limgrave and the Mistwood.

We recommend waiting until you have unlocked Torrent to make your way to this area since it is a long trek. You can get here a little quicker by going to the Dragon-Burnt Ruins in Limgrave and opening the trapped chest inside. This will teleport you to the center of Caelid into the Sellia Crystal Tunnel. Unfortunately, if you come here early, the enemies can be rather difficult to beat.

Once you reach Caelid, you will need to make your way to the other side of Sellia, the Town of Sorcery, to the Sellia Hideaway that is marked on the map above. This area is to the northeast of Sellia and to the northeast of the Church of the Plague.

When you reach the graveyard, attack the cliff behind the large gravestone with the magic-wielding enemy in front of it. This will reveal the entrance to the tunnel. You will need to traverse the tunnel and defeat the Putrid Crystalians boss at the end.

This boss will require you to fight three Crystalians at one time. Make sure you bring a heavy weapon that can easily break their poise.

Fire Knight’s Greatsword is a colossal sword in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree that scales with strength, dexterity, and faith stats. Like most weapons, you will need to defeat certain enemy types for them to drop weapons or armor, and it is the same case for Fire Knight’s Greatsword. Fire Knight Location

To get Fire Knight’s Greatsword, you must repeatedly kill Fire Knight enemy types in the game. Typically, you will find various types of Fire Knights in the Shadow Keep region, each carrying unique single and double-handed weapons.

However, the chances of getting Fire Knight’s Greatsword from killing any Fire Knight is low. You will need to repeatedly defeat the enemy type that actually wields the Fire Knight Greatsword.

‘Storehouse, First Floor’ site of grace is the nearest point where you will find a Fire Knight wielding the Greatsword. Take the lift that you took before to reach here and go down. Farm the weapon here by killing the FireKnight repeatedly, and you have a high chance for Fire Knight Greatsword to drop.

Fire Knight’s Greatsword Stats

Before you can use Fire Knight’s Greatsword in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree efficiently, you must meet the following minimum requirements to wield it:

Weapon Skill

The Fire Knight Greatsword comes with the Stamp (Upward Cut). As with most colossal swords, this is a powerful weapon skill, especially against human-sized enemies. Strike an enemy with this skill, which will throw him away, dealing a lot of damage.

This skill is especially useful while fighting with Knights with shields and heavy weapons. You can control the one-versus-one fight by throwing them in the air. The weapon’s skill costs 5 FP; when you chain it, another 8 FP is consumed.

The Red Bear boss is located in the Northern Nameless Mausoleum. To reach here you will need to find the Spiritspring that can help you reach new heights while riding Torrent. However, the Spiritspring will not be accessible, and you must first break a certain rock to enable it.

From the ‘Castle Front’ site of grace, you will find this Spiritspring if you go North. Circling from the west of this location will reveal a white crystal-like rock, and breaking this will allow you to use the Spirintspring that will take you up the cliff and reach the Red Bear boss’s location.

How To Beat Red Bear

Red Bear is one of the Great Enemy Bosses in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. He is an optional encounter that gives you a full armor set, a weapon, and a lot of runes if you manage to beat him.

Most of the Red Bear’s attacks can be blocked, except for the Bear Roar spell, which deals a lot of poise damage and will eventually hit you once the stance is broken. If you are a ranged build character, then you must maintain distance, cast a spell, or use a ranged weapon to strike the boss and repeat the process.

For melee build characters, you must focus on blocking the Red Bear’s attacks first and strike after. His attacks are fast, so parrying him will be difficult.

Rewards

You will get the following rewards after defeating Red Bear in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree:

• 80,000 runes
• Red Bear’s Claw
• Fang Helm
• Iron Rivet Armor
• Iron Rivet Gauntlets

You can reach Golden Hippopotamus after crossing the ‘Shadow Keep Main Gate’ site of grace. Exploring the location will lead you towards an elevator that stops at a big area in front of you covered with water.

As soon you enter this location, Golden Hippopotamus will wake up from sleep and come rushing at you, triggering the boss fight.

How To Beat The Golden Hippopotamus

Even though the Golden Hippopotamus is an optional boss, it is a very strong foe to beat. Most of the boss’s attacks hit hard and likely will kill you in two hits. Learning about the attack patterns should give you enough knowledge to take the fight head-on, counter the moves and emerge victorious.

Best Strategy To Beat Golden Hippopotamus

Beating the Golden Hippopotamus involves distracting. This can be achieved by bringing a summon with you or using a Spirit Ash such as the Mimic Tear.

An upgraded Mimic Tear will be much more helpful. All of your endgame gear, including weapons, shields, stats, and other items, will be used by Mimic Tear in the battle, aiding you side by side in defeating the Golden Hippopotamus.

Additionally, a 100 percent physical damage negation shield is a must-have for the Golden Hippopotamus boss fight. This is a large-sized boss in a small room. Dodging most of its AoE attacks is hard, but blocking them is very easy. Therefore, always run with a shield when you attempt the boss fight, regarding of your build.

When your summon has the boss’s attention, use this moment to deal as much damage as possible. After that, the boss will focus attention on you, and this is the time to soak all the damage by blocking.

Rinse and repeat this process, and the Golden Hippopotamus will be defeated in three to five minutes.

Defeating the Golden Hippopotamus in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree will give you the following rewards:

Blackgaol Knight is one of the optional bosses in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. The loot drop you get from this boss contains a full armor set and a greatsword, enough to carry you to mid-game if you do not happen to have one at the DLC’s start. Blackgaol Knight Location

You can find Blackgaol Knight very early in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. From the ‘Gravesite Plan’ site of grace, head west, and you will come across a Mausoleum with two fire torches on both sides of the underground entrance.

You can also reach this location from Scorched Ruins, which happens to be near the first Map Fragment. Just go directly west from Scorched Ruins, and you will find the Western Nameless Mausoleum with the stairs leading downwards to Blackgaol Knight’s boss room.

How To Beat Blackgaol Knight

Blackgaol Knight wields a Greatsword and a crossbow that shoots fire bolts. You will find the boss switching between either weapon on the fly and trying to take you down, mostly with jump attacks using the Greatsword.

Since this is a human-sized boss, you can deal a lot of posture damage and break the poise. This will allow you to deal with a staggered attack, depleting most of Blackgaol Knight’s health in a single blow.

Logur, the Beast Claw in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree is one of the human-sized enemies that “definitely isn’t a nod to X-men’s Wolverine.” You can find this named field boss very early in the game and defeating it gives a powerful weapon. Logur, The Beast Claw Location

The first site of grace, Gravesite Plain, is the starting point for finding Logur’s location. If you go southwest from this site of grace, you will reach a wooded/forest area.

Logur, the Beast Claw enemy, can be found roaming this land. Try to pass the time at the Site of Grace and explore this location during the day to maximize your chances of finding Logur.

We explored this area during the nighttime but did not find Logur. After passing the time (toggled from the site of grace) to daytime, we eventually found him.

In some cases, you may want to kill nearby animals for Logur to appear. If this enemy does not spawn for you, try slaying some sheep in the region to trigger Logur, the Beast Claw’s presence.

How to Beat Logur, The Beast Claw

Logur, the Beast Claw wields dual claws and deals bleed and physical damage on every hit. If your bleed meter fills, your character will hemorrhage and will lose a big chunk of health.

You can use a shield with 100 percent physical damage absorption to tank all hits from Logur. This will give you enough opportunity to strike back after he has exhausted his moveset.

Other than that, since Logur only uses melee weapons, bringing ranged weapons such as spells, incantations, and bows will help you beat him easily.

Logur, the Beast Claw does not wear any body armor and this makes him vulnerable to all damage types. If you have a bleed weapon such as Rivers of Blood, you can drain his health faster by hemorrhaging him in four to five hits.

Rewards

After defeating Logur in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, you will get the Beast Claw weapon. If you two-hand while wielding this weapon, your character will equip in both hands the beast claws. Otherwise, by default, it goes into one hand only.

Remember when you could transform your character into a dragon form in the Dark Souls series? Well, FromSoftware decided to bring that back for Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. There are a total of 2 dragon forms in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree that you can get pretty early on. In addition to being cosmetically cool, these can boost incantations of the capital’s ancient dragon cult. So, we’ll take you through how to acquire both forms in one run to transform your character into a dragon.

Acquire the “Domain of the Dragons” Painting in Shadow Keep

Most of our journey to hunt for these forms will take place in the Jagged Peak area of the Land of Shadow. Before we embark, there’s a certain painting, which is actually a quest item, you have to acquire from the Shadow Keep.

Start by reaching the Shadow Keep’s Main Gate, take a right from the main courtyard, and go up the steps. Once you reach the top, turn right and keep going forward till you see a ladder going down on the left side.

Once you reach the bottom, hug the wall on your left till you reach a room with another ladder going even further down. After descending the ladder, you’ll reach a storeroom where you’ll need to take the painting, “Domain of the Dragons.”

Reaching Jagged Peak

Now let’s set out towards Jagged Peak to meet the Dragon Priestess down at the Grand Altar of Dragon Communion. She’ll be giving us a quest that’ll lead to cool rewards, a dragon form being one of them.

So start your journey at the Castle Front Site of Grace located in front of Castle Ensis. From there, you’ll need to head towards the road on the southwest that leads out of the enemy camps and towards the Dragon’s Pit Dungeon.

On your way towards the Dragon Pit, you’ll be invaded by the Ancient Dragon Man. Fighting him is relatively easy as his attacks are easily dodgeable and you’ll be able to inflict good damage on well-timed strikes.

After defeating the Ancient Dragon Man, follow the straight path ahead until you see a cavern on your left which is the entrance to the Dragon Pit. Follow the tight space until you reach an opening with skeletal dragon enemies and try to slow your pace down. You can choose to ignore them and keep going forward.

After traversing through the caverns and steep cliffs and descending down a few levels, you’ll arrive at an old Altar with a gaping pit in front of it. Without hesitation, you can proceed to jump down and you’ll land safely down.

Here, you’ll have a full boss encounter with the Ancient Dragon Man after traversing the mist ahead. This is relatively difficult compared to the invading Dragon Man you’ve fought before. He’ll jump and use his katana to slash you down. However, his attacks are easy to dodge and you’ll have to take him down.

After defeating him, you’ll get his weapon, Dragon-Hunter’s Great Katana which is a very effective weapon against, you’ve guessed it, fighting dragons. You’ll need to open the doors in front of you to exit the Dragon’s Pit and finally enter the Jagged Peak area of the Land of Shadow.

Meeting The Dragon Priestess in the Grand Altar of Dragon Communion

Keep following the rocky terrain on the right until you come to a crossroads with a Jagged Peak Drake boss sleeping in the middle. You can either quietly walk past the boss to avoid confrontation or you can go ahead and fight it, your choice. But from this section, you’ll need to go to the path on the right side which leads to the Dragon Priestess.

Once you traverse the path on the right, you’ll come across a huge dragon’s lifeless body and the Grand Altar of Dragon Communion near its head. The Dragon Priestess is standing right beside the Dragon Altar so all you have to do is go near her and exhaust all her dialog options.

After an initial conversation, she’ll give you a choice to Devour Draconic Essense. Accepting this will begin the Dragon Priestess questline as she grants you the Ancient Dragon’s Blessing. She’ll then send you off to seek our Bayle the Dread at the summit of Jagged Peak.

Reaching Bayle the Dread on the Summit of Jagged Peak

To reach Bayle, all you need to do is backtrack to the crossroads you’ve encountered before and this time keep moving ahead through the “M” shaped stone arch. This path will have you climb and summit the Jagged Peak. The path ahead is pretty linear and you’ll need to traverse the rocky mountain until you reach the first spiritspring that will propel you up.

After crossing the rope bridge and activating the site of grace, you’ll come across an area where you’ll see two dragons fighting each other. You can either wait for one of them to die, engage both of them together, or simply run past them and reach two spiritsprings, one after the other.

Once you reach the top, follow the path until you reach a canyon with falling boulders that you need to avoid. After safely going through the canyon, you’ll reach the Ancient Dragon Sennesax boss. Similar to other encounters, you can either choose to fight it or simply run past it as this encounter is optional. I’d recommend saving your strength for the Bayle boss fight as you’ll need it.

There will be a path on an upward incline right behind where Sennesax was sleeping that you’ll need to climb up. Once you reach the top, activate the site of grace and go towards the left path. Lightening will be falling so avoid it as you traverse this path as you reach another spiritspring.

Once you reach the top of the spiritspring, keep going left until you see a rock protruding off the side of the cliff. Stand on it and then carefully jump down to the lower platform and reach the area marked in the image above.

After standing here a while, a ghostly chair with an apparition will spawn and then disappear leaving you with the Rock Heart item.

The Rock Heart is an infinite-use item that will transform your character into one of the two dragon forms in the Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. Remember when we collected that Domain of Dragons painting from the Shadow Keep’s basement storage? We get the Rock Heart item as a reward for the completion of a quest from the apparition in the Ghostly chair.

I don’t recommend using the Rock Heart item right away as you’ll need to strip your armor. This isn’t great as you still need to face Bayle the dread, one of the toughest bosses in the expansion. Now continuing our journey to the summit of the Jagged Peak, go back to the spiritspring and onto the platform above.

Keep moving forward until you come across another spiritspring and after traversing the lightning hazard area, you’ll propel yourself from the final spiritspring onto the summit of Jagged Peak. Activate the site of grace and go forward into the entrance to the bossfight arena.

Now get ready to face off against one of the most toughest optional bosses in the Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. Bayle attacks via stomps, breathing fire, and at one point destroying the whole arena with fire and lightning.

You’ll need to be on your toes and use bleed or rot-inducing weapons (Dragon-Hunter’s Great Katana is an extremely good option). We dual-wielded Rivers of Blood katanas which took good chunks off Bayle’s health. The best place to inflict the most damage is Bayle’s head so time your attacks well on it.

After defeating the great dragon, you can activate the site of grace and fast-travel back to the Grand Altar of Dragon Communion. The Dragon Priestess won’t be there anymore but in her place, there will be a Priestess Heart and a Flowerstone Gavel weapon.

Transform Into a Dragon in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree

You’ve finally made it to the end, a big round of applause. What better way to celebrate the completion of a long questline than to finally transform your character into a dragon in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree?

First things first, you need to remove all your armor/clothing by going into the equipment menu. After that, you can choose either the Rock Heart or the Priestess Heart to transform your character into a dragon.

The Priestess Heart will turn you into a similar dragon form as the Priestess herself. You can also equip the Flowerstone Gavel weapon which is a great arcane weapon that shoots red thunderbolts at enemies.

You can transform into the other dragon form by using the Rock Heart item acquired from the Ghostly Apparition. This one is my personal favorite as it simply looks cooler, especially when you use dragon magic with it.

We hope that you were able to acquire both forms and turn yourself into the dragon in the Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. Do know that once you become a dragon, your character will only revert to human form after dying.

Rellana is found inside Castle Ensis, and the closest site of grace near the boss room is ‘Castle Lord’s Chamber.’ To reach her from the starting point in the DLC, go east from the ‘Three-Path Cross‘ site of grace, where you first encounter a fire golem.

Afterward, you will reach the ‘Castle Front’ site of grace. Moving forward, you will need to fight a Carian troll and continue following this path to reach the ‘Castle Checkpoint‘ site of grace. Further exploration will lead you to a knight (hammer in right hand and a shield in left) blocking a lift that goes up where you will reach the ‘Castle Lord’s Chamber‘ and Rellana’s boss room next to it.

How to Beat Rellana Twin Moon Knight

Rellana Twin Moon Knight is a difficult boss fight in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. She has one phase, but after depleting her health to 50 – 60 percent, she buffs her weapons and introduces a few new movements in the mix.

Best Strategy to Beat Rellana

Rellana Twin Moon Knight is an agile boss who moves a lot on the field and tries to get close to deal melee damage. If you are a ranged damage dealer, the boss fight can be a little easy for you. On the other hand, melee players will have the hardest time defeating Rellana in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree.

However, we recommend you use various buffs to amp up the attack power and defenses and negate most of the physical damage you take during the boss fight. Golden Vow and Black Flame’s Protection will greatly support you during the boss fight.

Bring a summon or use the Mimic Tear during Rellana’s boss fight if you can to divide the boss’s attention and keep hitting her.

Build Recommendations for Rellana Boss Fight

While there is no shortage of builds in the game, we recommend running with the vampire build for the Rellana boss fight. This build uses the following equipment and stats:

• Blasphemous Blade
• Faithful’s Canvas Talisman
• Flock’s Canvas Talisman
• Shard of Alexander
• Godfrey Icon
• 60 Faith

The goal of this build is to use only the Blasphemous blade’s skill attack that sends a wave of fire in a single direction. This fire has Taker’s Flames effect, which gives you health back every time the flame hits a target. This way you will always have full health throughout the fight while dealing the most damage per hit.

Rewards

Even though Rellana Twin Moon Knight is an optional boss in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, she drops the boss Remembrance of the Twin Moon Knight. You can trade this with Enia back at Roundtable Hold to get the following items:

• Rellana’s Twinblade
• Rellana’s Twin Moons

You also get 240,000 runes as a reward for defeating Rellana. Rellana’s armor can also be obtained from Enia.
